The 12 Days of PXmas – Day Nine

Day 9 of the 12 Days of PXmas sees us looking at the Pedro Ximénez grape as we did on Day 11 in last year here.

Montilla-Moriles is known as “The Empire of the Pedro Ximénez”. Pedro Ximénez is one of the most versatile grape varieties given the number of wine styles that can made from it. Below are the styles with some examples: –

Wines from the DOP

  • Young White Wine – Bodegas Toro Albalá Dos Claveles 
  • White Aged Wine – Perez Barquero Fesquito

Generous or Fortified Wines

  • Fino – Bodegas Lagar el Monte Fino Cebolla
  • Amontillado – Bodegas Delgado Amon Amontillado
  • Oloroso – Bodegas Robles Piedra Luenga Organic Oloroso
  • Palo Cortado – Bodegas Lagar Blanco Palo Cortado

Generous Wines of Liquor

  • Pale Cream – Bodegas Alvear Pale Cream
  • Cream – Bodgeas Cruz Conde Solera Cream

Natural Sweet Wines

  • Pedro Ximénez – Perez Barquero Pedro Ximénez de Cosecha
  • Dulce – Bodegas Toro Albalá Don PX 1983 Gran Reserva
