While doing research for our trip in March we discovered that we could attend the Feria del Vino de Tinaja y la Gastronomía de Montalbán (Fair of the Tinaja Wines and Gastronomy of Montalbán). Arrangements were made with Rafa and Elena who would accompany us on the day.
We arrive in Montalbán on the 19th March, a hot sunny day and the whole town is buzzing. Fortunately for us the Fiera is being held in a very large marquee out of the scorching heat.
Inside the marquee there was a splendid array of food and wine selections. 13 bodegas and lagars were represented alongside a varied selection of restaurant and tapas stalls. It was a great atmosphere and one that has to be experienced.
Our first port of call was to our friends at Bodegas el Monte where we met up with Antonio López Cuenca.
We were also joined by Paco, Rafa’s colleague, and Leli his fiancee.
As usual these events are a great place to meet new people and catch up with old friends. Cayetano Gomez Martinez, a class mate from the technical course in September, had let us know that he too would be attending the Feria. The powers of social media came to the fore when we sent him a photo of where we were and he joined us for a drink.
We were also pleased to meet up with Isabel and Inma from Incentifor, who we also met on the course, at the Toro Albalá stand.
There were new Bodegas to discover too, new wines to taste as well as meeting some more of Montilla-Moriles’ generous people.
Little did we know that spending time at the San Pablo stand would lead to coincidental occurrence later in our trip when driving through Moriles. Post to follow on this.
Our 1st experience of a feria in Córdoba Province was fantastic. It certainly won’t be our last!
