2 Finos from Lagar Los Ragiones reviewed

November 2017 saw us review a very special Fino from Lagar Los Raigones, the first release of the Fino Lagar del Cerro, which can be found here.

We arranged to collect the second release of the November 2017 saca when we visited Montilla in January this year.

When we arrived at the lagar we were treated to an impromptu tour of the Lagar by José Antonio Jiménez Gómez, their commercial director.

We will share our visit notes soon but of note we also saw the cask that the Fino Lagar del Cerro is taken from.

It is en Rama at 15% ABV from 100% Pedro Ximénez grapes and was number 126 of 240 bottled on 22/11/2017

Nose: Salted almonds, unripe bananas, grass, yeast and salt. Slight green apple skin with seaweed (nori) and notes of the stalks from strawberries and tomatos.

Palate: Straw /hay. Lemon with a lot of honey in the background then citrus orange. Like a salted honey. Bramley apple skin and unripe banana with dry finish

The second bottle from the bodega which we enjoyed back in January was another fino.

Fino El Caballo Cordobés, at 15% ABV from 100% Pedro Ximénez grapes, spends 28 to 30 months biologically ageing under a velo de flor through the system of criaderas and soleras in American oak barrels.

Nose: Oranges, green apple, hint of papaya with yeast in the background.

Palate: Unripe peach, bitter lemon, hint of ripened strawberries, finishing with salted almonds Creamy mouthfeel.

Los Raigones is located in the Sierra de Montilla and has been growing its own crops since 1954.
