New Vinifications of Montilla-Moriles

Vinoble presents a great opportunity to attend masterclasses with some of the legendary winemakers of Andalusia. We carefully selected which ones we would attend and one of our top selections was the New Vinifications of Montilla-Moriles, hosted by Miguel Cruz Marqués.
The aim of the masterclass was to showcase the rich Andalusian wine heritage with a focus on the D.O. Montilla-Moriles.
The wines of the D.O. Montilla-Moriles have the particularity that they are made with Pedro Ximénez grapes and their maturity is natural during the fermentation of the musts.
Miguel described the great complexity of these wines and the new processing techniques that are being carried out to obtain wines of excellent quality.
Miguel Cruz Marqués has a PhD in Agronomy and a hugely respected winemaker. He belongs to a traditional family devoted to grape growing and winemaking. Read more about Miguel here.

The wines selected by Miguel to represent the quality produced in D.O. Montilla-Moriles were: –
- Vino de Tinaja – Lagar Blanco – 14% ABV
- Fino Cebolla – Bodegas El Monte – an average of 15 years in wood, 15% ABV
- Fino TB Etiqueta – HROS Torres Burgos – 8yo and 15% ABV
- Oloroso – Lagar Blanco – 17% ABV
- Amontillado 1890 – HROS Torres Burgos
- Pedro Ximenez 1981 – COOP La Aurora – 15% ABV
We thoroughly enjoyed this tutored tasting and it was a pleasure to meet Miguel again having first met him during our Technical Specialists Course in Sepetmber 2016 when he was one of our tutors.
