One Night in Córdoba

The 3rd part of our trip in March was a night in Córdoba.

Part one saw us spend two nights in Madrid with part two, two nights in Extremadura.

We now want to introduce you to another classmate from our Technical Specialists course,  Isa Calvache of Caracol Tours based in Córdoba.  She is now a great friend and a font of knowledge when it comes to Cordoba!

So it made sense to ask her for restaurant recommendations for our stay and needless to say the response was impressive. A list of restaurants and tabernas was provided, complete with a summary highlighting their speciality dishes and wines.

When we let Isa know our preferred option was the Restaurant Sociedad Palateros María Auxiliadora, we were delighted that she could join us and made the arrangements.

Needless to say we had a fantastic meal acompanied by some fabulous house wines from Montilla-Moriles.

Isa kindly arranged with Manolo to provide a cake to help us celebrate our 10th Anniversary

Isa arrived  towards the end of the meal and we were honoured also to be joined by Manolo Bordallo, chef and proprietor.

The restaurant is excellent with fantastic food, wines, ambience and service. Restaurante Sociedad Plateros is definitely worth a visit and we look forward to returning.

José Ropero López takes great pride in his creations

If the evening was not enjoyable enough, Isa had more planned for us.  A visit to Glacé, a cocktail bar, run by José Ropero López who is had qualified as a Technical Specialist in the Wines and Vinegars of DO Montilla-Moriles earlier in the month.

This was an unforgettable experience. José is hugely passionate about using wines from Montilla-Moriles in his Glacé cocktails, so we had to try a few!

It was fascinating to see how José prepared each drink, meticulously constantly checking to see that it met his high standards of consistency and taste. He truly is an artist with liquid.

To finish the evening we were very privileged to try a piece of liquid history, an amazing Palo Cortado Alboroque at 17.5% from Bodegas Moreno, sadly now closed. This wine was made by José Ignacio Santiago Hurtado, one of our lecturers from our Technical Specialists course.

If you have a few hours to spare in Cordoba then a visit to Glacé is highly recommended. We enjoyed it so much we went back in April but we will share that with you later.

We are very grateful to Isa for making our evening so enjoyable.
